Grinding noise in reverse after car warmed up.
#1
I have just noticed that If I take my MY01 for a run then slow down to reverse into a driveway / parking space I get a grinding / binding noise from the back of the car.
If I roll backwards down a hill in neutral there is no noise at all. It only seems to be when I reverse under power. Its worse if you reverse up an incline.
Any ideas

I had the rear Diff. unit replaced on my 99my at 1800 miles when it started to clonk. I also noticed that it made more noise when reversing. I never found out what the problem was as the dealer probably just sent the thing back without stripping it. I reckon a bearing began to collapse allowing excessive end-float within the crown-wheel and pinion assembly. Spiral-bevel gears will produce more noise when transmitting power in the "wrong"direction, if they are not meshing within their tolerance the noise increases.
Is it ok going forwards? No whine, clonking or driveline shunt?

PS Check the colour of the oil in the final drive (easy) It should be clear, if it`s grey (like mine was) be a little suspicious.

Thanks for the reply.
The car is fine going forwards and there is no sign of any clonking or whining noises.
It seems funny that it is far more noticeable after the car is well warmed up. If I give the car real stick it is really noisy.
