Default fuel gauge stuck on half...

ok, gauge was reading low, so i fill up at shell, just shy of £50 (not on the light btw) anyway, after 10miles, i check the gauge, and its stuck on half way. hasnt budged after 20mins of spirited driving...anyone help me???

4 things:-

Electric wiring at either gauge or in-tank float/potentiometer has shorted.
Fuse blown.
Gauge's needle physically stuck.
Float/potentiometer somehow physically stuck.

These are the only things I can think of.

mine did that last year i just gave the dash a good whack! its been fine ever since if that dont work try all the stuff joz said

Mine is giving a correct reading but even when the car is turned off,only just noticed surely this is wrong .

I know that the MY93-96 gauge's needle stays at the the represented level of fuel in the tank... even AFTER ign. has turned off!

Not sure about any other MYs though.

ive got a 1996 wagon and the fuel gauge drops to zero when ign is off but that may be down to the alarm system (full shut down closure) i once had my keys on the drivers seat closed the door but had the windows down i then took the battery off for some reason n when i put it back on the windows went up n doors locked .....I was not happy

I might be wrong on the needle not going to zero, but I have a early binnacle here in front of me and the needle is at what the last level of fuel was.

my fuel gauge was stuck looked at sender looked ok so checked gauge again and seems to jump to fuel some times then to empty ect just does wat it wants need help just orderd new clocks and going to try them
