I would first consider whether you are likely to leave the car standard or get the tuning bug ?

If you think that you will want to start modifying it, I would buy the STi instead of the WRX !

I have spent thousands on my WRX (and no end in sight !) and a lot of the expenditure could have been avoided by buying an STi in the first place.

what is your budget as that will ultimately decide which to go for.

Mate, you are the Anti-Minjeeta and one of the seven signs....

I got pissed to celabrate remortgaging my house to fit a new kitchen and bathroom, then awoke to find a 'You Have Won' email from ebay the next morning telling me I had outbidded 17 other punters for a 9 grand WRX.

It was the most irresponsible and stupid thing I had done.

Until I read the other email in my inbox which told me 'I had won' a pair of 400 quid night vision goggles.

5 Pints of Stella and don't know how many JDs and diet cokes were used in my research.

P.S. I know a nice man who'll sell you a Jaguar.

I agree ! I paid £7800 for my WRX, have spent about £1500 on tuning it and still don't have the same performance as the equivalent STi !! Learn from my mistake. I love my WRX but wish I had gone for the STi !

I went to look at an early bugeye STi (Jap spec, 2000 'X' plate) the other week that was up for sale at £4500 !

Basically sound but needed a bit of cosmetic tidying, I have a feeling it might still be for sale if it might be of interest ?

Other than that, you should get a very tidy bugeye WRX for £4k.

The way I feel about mine at the moment, someone could probably have it for £4 !

My advice - do a search!
Sorry if that's not the answer you're looking for, but this question has been asked time and time again and there are plenty of much more detailed threads with things to look out for.

The '01' onwards are actually '00' onwards, came out in Japan first.

The '00' car I mentioned is the STi version not the WRX, hard to find a Newage STi under £6k usually.
