You shouldnt need to replace the heater matrix, unless its failed, you have to fit the new a/c rad, double fan unit and the centre console and pipework, afaik that is all that is involved before having her gassed up, took them about 5 hours to fit mine to my new MY00 back in 2000, a dash out job would take that on its own.

I have to change the box with the aircon matrix inside (under the airbag on the passenger side behind the glovebox) and I keep getting mixed responses as to whether or not to take the dash out or not???

Its a dash out job, no other way of getting to it, they never did that to my MY00 though, no difference in the car between the 99 and 00 mechanically.
Tony
PS, when you say the aircon matrix, what exactly are you saying? the aircon has its own rad that goes infront of the normal rad, the matrix your talking about is a heater matrix, nothing to do with the aircon.

From what I remember, the evaporator fits to the original heater box etc.
I've not fully installed mine yet - i've had the engine bay part done but waiting on some parts to finish off the installation (i've got a local scooby specialist doing it - taken 90 mins so far).

i got my kit from grade a subaru and i did not have to take my dash out its quite easy once you see how there is 1 bolt up behind the dash and you can take it off with the dash in its just hard to put back in
