which ecu and turbo should i have?
Hi guys my friend has a 1996 uk mcrae edition impreza 2.0 turbo
a previous owner has fitted a piggyback chip and we want to get rid
it has a td05 turbo, is this standard for a uk car?
if so shall we get the same ecu again or replace it with a z4 etc..
the only other mods we can find is a centre decat and backbox
Please can i have your opinons thanks Phil

You should be able to remove the piggyback, which would make it standard again.
This is going to sound odd from a tuning company, but how about leaving it alone after that? If it's otherwise stock it would be nice to keep it unmodified as it's a limited edition.

cheers fella, thats what we are trying todo
is it supposed to have a tdo5 turbo?
we was going to remove the piggyback but it has been soldered in (badly) and could really do with replacing!! the ecu in question is a 7d, is this matched for the td05
Do early pre97 wrx's and uk's come with the tdo5 as standard?
one of my other friends has a spare z4 ecu, if we fitted it would it make any differance or need any thing else done to the car?
thanks for your reply Phil

the ecu chip may well be the prodrive chip which was supplied with the car, the car came with the tdo5 turbo as standard, fitting a z4 ecu will work although you will have given yourself a speed limiter in the process unless the z4 is already chipped, if you are really that bothered about the chip join the "j1" link/dummy resister back together and this will resort back to standard ecu map, hope this helps.

td05 is the correct turbo for the car.
the prodrive ecus fitted to the classics normally had a profrive sticker on the top. they were normal ecu with a chip.
this is the ecu it should have ebay item 180483683909 you may have to log into a ebay account to see the item as its ended now

well i have got it out!! its defo just a 7d no prdrive stickers etc.. i found some paperwork with the cars history and recipt form ebay for the chip cost around £250..
so if i join up the resister back to j1 and remove the chip, will we be back to normal?
also if i did use another ecu off of a wrx z4 etc how would i remove the speed restricter?
Cheers Phil

what does the paper work say with the chip? what does it say on the chip, it may not all be that bad if you friend is unsure get it checked out on the rolling road, to listen for det and check the fuelling your freind may be surprised about the difference from standard and chipped.
lol , thats what we done went to a rolling rd, the chip was operated by a switch, when it was on there was a lot of det above 5000 revs then the bottom end went bang!
anyways long story, but are nearly there we got a new engine fitted, we just want to make sure that it is running corectly with the right ecu
Thanks Phil
