Default Sensor in pipe after downpipe, 02 sensor, required?

Hey guys,

Is the 02 sensor required ?

Mine rattles like a good'un in there, makes a horrible noise. Are they required for anything? I know if I remove it I'm bound to get a CEL, but just wondering if I can remove it, and bung it up with no adverse affects?

Regards,

Yeah, pretty sure it's there just to ensure the cat is working efficiently?

I'm sure that the newage ECU uses info from the rear sensor to check on how the front sensor is doing (as well as working out if the cat is still there).

JGM mentioned it on an exhaust thread a few weeks ago.......either that or I'm making it all up. Just off to look for the thread

I see, interesting. Why the hell does it rattle so much in the decat pipe? It was fine in standard pipework, but as soon as put into the decat pipe, it rattles and sounds like a leak. Very annoying!
