i have a 98 imp, it has the 16 pin adaptor i have an obd11 reader an it just reads link error, i was told that obd11 was introduced in 96 onwards, but mine cant read it, i was told by a vehicle leccy that the adaptor doesnt mean its deffo obd11, but it shud be, ended up goin 2 garage, cost me 35? if u get the connectors u can hook it op to a laptop with the right programme installed in the laptop.

There read by a subaru select monitor

Cars didnt have to be obd11 compliant till 2000 but many maker waited til 2001 to become compliant.

They didnt want to do it coz it meant anyone could read codes rather than main dealers only or people with expensive main dealer equipment

Anyone know what adapters or software is needed for a 2000?
I have a program called Centrafuse used to work with BMW's shows error codes, and all vehicle temperatures, rpm, etc.
Looking for something similar for the scooby.

You can manually read the error codes on the classic shaped imprezas without the need of a reader

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes

Connectors may be hard to find if never used before so they may be taped up.

yep you can will only give codes though and not any info on what the sensors are doing which is often where a problem is a sensor may not be reading right but as the ecu is getting some sort of signal it wont show as an error code

That's because the pre MY97 cars didn't have one!
