Ticking after oil change
Hey,
changed the engine oil in my 03 STi, I put in 5/40 fully synthetic, filled the oil filter, and disconnected crank sensor before cranking it.
now I've started to notice a ticking noise when on tick over... sounds like it's coming from the turbo/down pipe but not sure.
any ideas?
thanks,

Thin nasty oil, tired old STI= noisy tappets, noisy injectors, chuffing up-pipe.....
You choose....
dunx
P.S. mine always sounds a bit "rough" on thin or old oil, has done since new. 10W60 in mine.

I filled it upto the full mark...then cranked it.
I'm using 5/40 as recommended by Oilman...you think i should use 10/40?
not sure what oil was in before...first change I've done since owning it.

I've always used millers CFS 10W40 full synth in mine with no probs then i had it serviced at a local independant jap specialist. They put in 5W30 semi as subaru reccomend. After about 1000 miles is started ticking badly. Changed back to millers 10W40...noise nearly gone!

I was told my more than 1 tuning company that 10w/40 was to think for cold winter mornings, and that I would be better off with 5w/40 in general especially during the winter.

as long as you let it warm up for five minutes before you drive it int he winter there is no need for this 5 w stuff and it will fine every plave possilbe to come out of your engine and it will burn quicker 10w is what you want
