1995 Type Ra Water Temp Sensor, Where is it located???
I've got a problem someone might be able to help me with ; When the car is idiling the temp gauge goes up to half way but i've left it running a while and the fan doesn't come on,in the past week or so when driving the car the temp needle returns to near the bottom of the gauge on the dash ,but on idle it goes to half way.I've ordered an ECU Water temp sensor so going to change it but i'm unsure of it's location .Is it underneath the intercooler somewhere ? I've checked for codes on the ECU but there aren't any . Help with this would be appreciated.

Hi, the ecu temp sensor has nothing to do with your temp gauge, there's a second sensor in the water cross feed pipe for this.
Both the sensors sit in the same pipe, it's between the throttle body and turbo.
Sounds like your thermostat may be seized open, and the wind through the rad when driving is causing the water temps to drop off in the cold weather were having.

No, new thermostat, they're quite cheap. It sits in the water pump, at the large water pipe that goes to the bottom of the rad, battery side. It does mean dumping your coolant.

You said in the post at the start that the sensors are next to each other ?
Both the sensors sit in the same pipe, it's between the throttle body and turbo.-or is it on the other side.Sorry never had any experience with this problem before so trying to do it myself rather than pay someone else.

The thermostat's not a sensor, it's a valve that opens when your water comes up to temp to allowing it to pass through the rad, which is at the bottom passenger side.
The ecu and temp gauge sensors are on top of the engine, in a alloy water pipe, see this pic, where the ring is. It's under all the pipes, a bit tricky to get too.
Hope this helps

See here for the CTS on you car:-

Here's a pic (on it's side!) showing the coolant x-over pipe over the top of the block with the CTS (big sensor) and the smaller sensor for the water temp gauge next to it. Obviously this is showing it with the IM and ancillaies removed:-
