Not what you want to hear but you'll have to change that much on the sport it will be more easier, cheaper and quicker to just go out and buy a turbo version.

It's really not worth while doing. That i'm afraid is the cold hard truth. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

As above. Their is a thread in the projects section where an impreza GL is done up. This should give you some scale of how much you will have to change, and how many parts you are gonna need from a donor car.

There are plenty of threads similar to this, the answer is always the same, just go and buy a turbo version.
If you want to know how much of the car you will have to replace, then all I will say is that the shell will be the only original part, that should give you some idea of what is envolved.

Same as above mate the cost would escalate out of control to far more than buying a turbo version.even if you replaced all the running gear for turbo items and set about replacing the main loom you'd still be far off finished.Even silly things like the door wiring would need changing as it wont be compatable. As a labour of love it is possible but even putting in every week end and a cupple of hours a night it would take so long to complete you'd of wished youd bought a turbo to start with. And insurance would be more for a turbo d sport than a std turbo.

It's only cheaper insurance if you fail to inform the DVLA & your insurance company, which is illegal & highly stupid. If you are condoning that then you a ****.

As for the original question, buy an Impreza Turbo, there are plenty of cheap ones around & you will save yourself a huge amount of blood sweat & tears for no reason.

DJ Jon has already said it, the only way to get cheaper insurance is to lie that the car is a sport with no modifications, when you list all the modifications it will cost you more than a turbo to insure, and the tax is the same anyway, so it is illegal and your not insured (thanks for the 6 points and a big fine ta)

Now you know why those of us who have been on here for a while and are a little "older" say "buy a turbo 2000" as its cheaper all round
