Default Annoying Fuel Fault

V5 STi Red Label Fuel Pump.

Right them, this as been going on a while now and is pissing me off.

The car will run fine for weeks on end then when I get down to a 1/4 tank some times it won't start.

But, all I do is remove the bolts holding the pump in give it a shake and bingo off she goes!

I have taken the pump out, fitted a new pump from a Type R, new bag, float and replaced the fuel filter.

I have noticed the V5/6 pumps have a small plastic box with a hole in it on the bracket next to the float. It's connectd to the electrical plug by two wires, on the end of which is what looks like a shiney small silver cylinder.

Is this some kind of inertia switch/cutoff?

This seems to be the only thing left to change.Could this be the problem?

I can now get the car seats out and back in in about 15 minutes

had the same problem with my wrx it was the connectors corroded up inside black connector under the seat . kids bounced up n down on seat sometimes it work then other times not . traced it to the block repacled with connectors and put in a secret fuel cut switch at the same time , take a long wire to the place of your choice then fit switch and return wire back to the one you interupted. problem solved and hidden fuel cut switch as a bonus

Yes there is

Do you have an idea Stiggy? It was something else I was thinking about It may be a vacuum that is stopping the fuel flow.

I have read that some people drill a very small hole in the fuel cap to cure the vacum problem Ian.

I sometimes get that air escape noise Ian but I've not had any running issues. Remember the pump came off my type R so it should work with your car fine.

Hope you get it sorted.

Right then. I have drilled a 2mm hole straight through the cap from the small dimple in the top.

Fulled her up and the first thing I noticed was the fuel gauge seemed to respond quicker it used to take an age before.

Fingers crossed.

Looks like its plan b mate, lol.I had the same thing happen to my old fuel pump,it would ocaasionally freeze, and when removed and shaken about & connected to 12 volts it would work. Eventually it just packed up,so i bought a cheap uprated 1,and 6 weeks later that did exactly the same,so just bought a walbro 255 and no probs so far.
