Default speedo reading wrong. i think

hello there. i fitted a speedo converter/ derestricter to my car before getting it on the road. now im using it everyday im sure its reading wrong.

i was told on here that i still use the original facia but it would now be in mph oppose to kph

to me its reading less than it should it feels like im doing 35-40mph but the speedo will read 20-25mph

its like this as the speed increases it always seems to be reading less than it feels i am doing.

if im right and it is wrong im could end up with some more points.

when i get a chance i will pace it with another car to see if its some where near where it should be.

has anyone encountered anything similar.

Have you got a tom tom or a gps speed camera device or can you borrow one. They have got an accurate speed measurement on them. Are the wheel/tyres the correct size? Changing wheel/tyre sizes can alter speedo reading.

i should beable to borrow one.

the wheels are not the right size but it seems more than that.

does any one know what size wheels and tyres are fitted as standard to a 97 sti then i can work out the rolling radius of mine against the standard wheels.

Yes, sounds like.

That sounds a bit wrong.

Would make sense. The converter divides the input by 1.6. And, lo and behold, 40/1.6=25. One of two things are true. Either you've installed the unlimiter incorrectly, or you'll need to change the instrument panel fascia.
