Don't use Magnatec. The original oil Subaru would of used was Shell Helix 5w 40. This is perfectly good oil. If you wish to use a 10w 40 then something like Millers 10w40 CFS will be perfect.

In one of our lesser powered Imprezas we have always run 10/40 Magnatec without issue. In the other one we only use Motul 10/40 or 15/50.

8 Litres of magnatec 10/40 from costco £30 2 x 4 litres packs

I think i'll use this as this is what the dealer is using and dont wanna worsen my fuel economy using 15/50

Out of the ones listed the Mobil 1 0w-40 is the best quality so give that a go.

Cheers

0 weight oils are not recommended on subaru's (especially the turbo type) you want a 5 rated or a 10 rated, oil man can do you some very nice motul 10w40 fully synthetic

Check the date on it from Costco, the Mobil 1 0w-40 is now in 5ltr tubs and has been for some time. As in it could be a good reason why it is cheap if it is towards the end of its shelf life.

No reason why it should leak.

You can use shell helix sure. I would go 5w-40 over 10w-40 any day as the 5w will provide a better cold start flow.

Have a browse 5w-40, 5w-40 oil, 5w40, 5w/40

Cheers

Just123... why are you looking to sacrifice quality for the sake of £20!

For something you'll do only once/twice a year (depending on mileage), surely it makes more sense to go with a quality oil, considering it's quite an important element!!

You shouldn't run an impreza on the cheap, as it'll bite you on the *** at some point.
