Default Fumes in Cabin

After a hi speed run i get a cabin full of exhaust fumes for aminute or so while im slowing down, once driving again and normal speed (on track of course) it goes straight away.

im thinking door seals ???

no leaks from any of the exhaust itself so its got to be draw back from the back box but why ?

Its not coming out of the heater vents is it? Steaming up the windows? If so possibly your heater matrix.

That is weird - had a similar thing with mine, a bit worse tho as I couldn't smell the fumes, I just got sleepy and a bit sick after an hour + motorway driving - wasn't sure why at first, but tried tightening up the boot catch to make the boot shut harder against the seals, and that seems to have done it (I think). +1 for a Darwin award tho, using myself as a CO1 detector

Would be interested to know if you find out what it is, and I'll check the same on mine too. I still have my suspicions about the NSR window seal, but not sure...

i thought that, but checking it it seems fine, when i had the original cat on it did it and that was proper sealed,it now has a ninja sports cat which had new gasket and it still does it so dont think its that either

baffling, i will see if i can fit another set of door seals and see if that does anything

im wondering if it could be leaking from the samco pipe Y pipe, the bit that connects to the turbo then onto the intercooler ?

would notice a great deal in lack of performance if it were ? boost etc ?

reason i wonder this is because since i fitted a 2003 TMIC when i give it some beans it dont half like whistle from the engine bay, sounds like a turbine !

hmmm

WIth the larger TMIC they tend to amplify all sounds from the air travel so it shouldn't be that. Indeed you would have also noticed the lack of performance if the pipe was the issue.

I would also suggest checking that all your bungs in your front wall are in and sealed as at high speed air will force its way into the cabin with any fumes from your exhaust, it could be an oil drip from rocker cover landing on uppipe tho?

Just my 2p's worth.

im just baffled as to why, they are pretty strong fumes, but smell like its gone past the cat as they are that sweet smell etc but really strong but sometimes dont,i dont go that fast for long/often really to make a good diagnoses ha ha

cant see any exhaust leaks from any joints/felt around the downpipe/turbo joint, cant feel any leaks so really baffled, door seals are good, boot is extra sealed (i moved the latch further down to lock it tighter)

cant see/hear a leak in the headers and it doesnt do it when driving normally, only after 70 mph driving eratic really, a steady build upto 70 and its fine, even at 80 steady build up its fine, its only when you give it loads quickly

well,it still doing it.

its not the intercooler
its not the mid section or backbox leaking
its not the boot seal
door frame seals
its not the headers
it doesnt seem to be the turbo/downpipe joint, cant feel any fumes, very hot area so hard to tell but doesnt seem/feel like it

Only thing i can think of is the actual door seals on the door or the up-pipe ?

when i rev the engine whilst in the engine bay i can sort of smell the same smell over to the left side near the airbox area ??????? not sure if thats from the backbox sucking back thru etc via the wind or anything ?

i cant see/get to the up-pipe,i jacked it up and looked at the headers joint, nothing there leaking.

gutted so far, nothing ive done has changed the strenth of smell so ?????
