Default dead classic wagon help!!!

Ok today the scoob decided to stop happened like this.

was using the car to take dogs out and on way back it just cutout just like if u had switched the ignition off but there were no warning lights, so coasted it to stop.
I immediatley checked to see if any fault code showed (none coming up just the steady constant flash from the check light)
when it cut there was no horrible noises or anything odd but i whiped off the cam cover to check belt which looks fine.

So i then checked all fuses none of which are blown.

i have had starting issue from the car before but when that happened it would crank over and not attempt to catch but its not cranking over like that and seems to be trying to fire but not fire if u know what i mean.

Any ideas what i can check next? this has me stumped
cheers

The starting point would be to determine if it has a spark at the plugs or if there is fuel at the plugs and work from there. Easiest way to do this is to crank it a few times and then remove a plug and go from there.
If there is no fuel and no spark, ensure plugs to the ECU are fully home and look at the alarm/immobiliser circuitry.

its kinda hard working on it atm as its stuck on the roadside a mile from home

its a auto but can i still tow it in neutral? obviously very slowly as i will have no power steering or servo on brakes.

pouring with rain now so will leave it til tomorrow hopefully someone will steal it in the night and do me a favour

Does the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on?

yeah pretty sure the pump is working it makes it usual buzz to prime
no idea if it actually pumps correctly duff pump common fault? i know people upgrade all the time but i really don't want to get into the replacing parts for no reason senario

other thought i had so let me run it by you guys, i recently fitted a new power steering pump from a version 3 to cure that really annoying leaking one i do remember noticing around the crank sensor it was very wet with leaked power steering fluid would that cause it to not read correct you think? but as its not broken as such report no fault code.
hopefully weather will be better tomorrow and i can check through better and take some tools to the car or a can of petrol and a match if all else fails

If it is only a short distance you can tow the car but it has to be a short distance and at low speed.
If the pump is working, chances are it is not the immobiliser but go round the engine bay looking for obvious problems and pull the cover off the ECU in the footwell and make sure the plugs are fully home. I went to a broken down car recently , no spark, no fuel and found one of the ECU plugs slighly out of place and I suspect the owner had been using the passenger seat for extra marital activity !!!
If you turn the engine over and then remove a plug it should be wet so you have fuel. With the plug out you can check if it is sparking and then you will have more idea of where to concentrate your search.

thanks for the reply harvey
managed to tow it home to my garage just now so will investigate further without the risk of being run over

i can assure no "activities" have happened in my passengers seat

will try and get a vid but the engine don't sound right cranking over i have a feeling the belt has maybe jumped a few teeth, crank speed is lower than it should be battery still plenty of life. the belt was changed not more than 3 months ago.

am i right inthinking the early engines (version 2 ) may survive a snapped belt with no damage?

Is it sparking?
Are the plugs wet after cranking which will indicate there is fuel there?
Until you can asnwer these questions with some certainty I think you are wasting your time.

ok update on tonights testing

Spark= strong spark
fuel pump= does make a noise but when i checked voltage its only getting 4.4volts
so this looks like the culprit and explains why i was getting some fuel but obviously not enough to make the engine run.

i had a look for the fuel pump relay manual shows it as under the dash on drivers side but as everything is in japanese i have no clue lol
any clues what it looks like?

if it is just a duff relay i will love it again honest!!!

not a duff relay was getting the low voltage reading from the guage and the pump is deffo working on prime and crank.

so i have fuel and spark but not running

any ideas on what to check next?

if you defo have good fueling and a healthy spark you just need air for the mixture then compression so have you checked the head for compression and you air intake

not compression tested as i have no pressure guage.

quick movie of it cranking over YouTube - CLIP0022~1

spark is present and strong, fuel pump is working and fuel pressure to injectors stupidly while i was in the garage i did not whip a plug out again to check if they getting wet.

current suspects are ecu/crank/cam sensors have a standard ecu on way to try
