Default Tyres rubbing on a standard setup?

I have a 98 Impreza WR, which has 17'' wheels, with 215/40/17 tyres all round. The WR was the one with the prodrive handling kit, exhaust, ECU etc..

It does have 'Prodrive suspension', which seems to be STI struts and presumably some kind of lowered springs, as it does sit low (see pic).

Problem is, when 'pressing on' the tyres are rubbing at the back, and down to about halfway down the side of the tread (see below).

Is this a common issue? Dont think I can get smaller wheels with the Brembo's on.

All ideas welcome!

Cheers

Grant

That is a nice low car! May be time for some stiffer springs, or coilovers!

I think the kit also makes it look lower, but the suspension has never been modded, which is why I dont understand the rub.

In fairness, its only when practising my cornering on a private strip of land, but think its going to be an issue for track days

Im wondering if those wheels have had spacers on to clear the calipers, hence you are getting the rubbing
Lovely WR Sport though they dont make many of those, 37k new

No spacers at all- wheels and suspension completely as standard, which is why I wondered if anyone else got this and any suggestions? Otherwise I guess its arch rolling

What mileage is on your car? just wondering if the rear shocks could be worn and there is a bit more play in there than normal

24k in miles, so hardly anything! Its a 98 so did wonder about the age of the springs, but guess there is no way of knowing without putting new springs on!

ive got the same wheels and tyres at the same ride hight with a simalar suspention set up and never had any rubbimg even on really hard cornering. as a guess maybe you need new springs or dampners
just a thought

Lomas- you couldnt post a pic of your ride height could you?

It does only happen occasionally, and in more track type conditions as I alluded to above.

Hi Grant, I might be barking up the wrong tree, but, I had a close look at your tyres. It appears, although it is hard to see, that the load index is 83w. Now as I said it might be nothing but my classic is on load index 87w tyres. Maybe the car is 'just' to heavy for the tyres and, under hard cornering, they are flexing a little too much?

Has the car had a geo set up after the suspension was fitted? The alignment could be out? A set of rear camber bolts would aid the setting also.
