Default to remap or not to remap

HI
I have got a 2001 wrx bugeye and have done a few mods on it i.e stainless exhaust from downpipe back to racebox backbox thus removing cat also bailey dump valve and powertec induction. The car is running sweet at the moment touch wood but would like to remap it ihave looked around at various
remap prices and find that what they charge is scandilous considering its
more or less downloading info from a laptop to the ecu.I have come across
a company called evolution chips who are fairly reasonable at £359 .Has anyone out there had a remap by them.
I would welcome any advice on remaping as i am a bit dubious about doing
it are there any horror stories regarding remaps.
Cheers

pay the extra money and get a ecutek remap no a chip mate its well worth it. suprised the induction kit is not causing any problems, they are generally considered a bad thing on the bugeyes.
i had full decat and up pipe done with a uprated fuel pump and just a k and n panel and got 285 bhp, makes hell of a difference

if your thinking of modding further then get those bits( if injectors, sti intercooler, vf34/5 turbo) then get it mapped. rather than paying £600-700 for ecutek then about £200 for the mapping then in a couple of months if you get the parts above. it will then cost around £200 for another mapping session.

what does your racebox system sound like? I just bought that back box as its one of the quietest around which is what i wanted!

I'm off for a remap on Monday at Clive Atthowe Tuning in Norwich...includes before and after rolling road with an ECUTEK remap for around £600ish

There is a thread on the MLR about scandalous re-mapping antics.... I would agree that a "custom" map to suit your driving style and cars specification is much better than a so-called generic map to suit a model in a product range.

IMHO

Car definitely needs to me mapped - just think if damage occurs it'll cost you far more.

I would also highly reccommend Jolly Green Monster.

I changed the centre section and the cat pipe so its stainless from the
downpipe back.Did not remove down pipe because of mot emision.Dont blame
anyone for changing from original factory back box, those twin pipes are
bloody awfull.

Yeah its all included within the price...usually gone down the route with handheld chipping devices (bluefin, Dreamscience etc) so to have a proper remap will be a new experience for me
