Default NEWBIE NEEDS HELP

Hi There Nice to meet you all.
Please can you help i have just bought a 2003 wrx sti type uk with pro drive performance pack it goes like stink and am very pleased but i have noticed the bottom end knocks until it warms up can you tell me the best place to get a replacement or somewhere in sussex that would repair it . also what is the difference between engines as i have been offered several but really want one with the same power or more and not sure what i need to look for.

Sounds like Piston slap to me - quietens down as the pistons expand with the heat generated in the engine.

dont rule out the cam belt tentioner either, they sound like a bottom end knock.

Thanks For your help Is piston slap a major concern it takes about 15 minutes and then runs like a sewing machine not sure if i need to change engine?

if it clears when warm then it cant be big ends, as big ends knock all the time. once the big ends start to go, they usually let go pretty fast so i think you would know about it by know and you would notice a drop in power as the knock correction would be on overdrive. best to get a proffesional take a listen. mine used to knock bad when cold, i changed the belt and some pullies and now its fine.
ive had to give my car a MAJOR service since ive had it. seems the previous owner in japan may have neglected it a bit.

if it is piston slap then this is not a big deal. so long as it doesnt use oil then it can run for many many more miles.
