95 uk turbo boosting wierd.....
hi all, i have a 95 uk turbo with a revolution downpipe and magnex system(no cats or centre boxes) a tdo5h turbo, pipercross cone filter. when i bought the car it was knocking so i swapped the engine over to a 95 jap wrx motor and fitted my parts on. it runs fine off boost, but when it comes on boost in higher gears(4th-5th) it hits 1 bar under full throttle from 60mph and then drops to around 0.5 bar but holds back a little bit before rising to about 0.8 bar. it doesnt seem to be cutting boost, just the turbo tails off around 5k then comes back again... strange i know. any help would be appreciated. p.s it feels slow compared to my old legacy turbo which was bog standard and dyno'd at 198bhp with 155k on! somethings gotta be wrong? cheers.

i traced the pipe i was on about, it goes to the middle vaccuum take-off of the 3 on the inlet manifold via a t-piece which runs a hard plastic pipe through into a grommet in the bulkhead but i have no idea where it goes to inside the car, i have a boost gauge but it gets its reading from the single vaccuum take-off on the manifold near the boost pipe. i have a blitz boost controller but i disconnected it and put it back onto the subaru map/boost solenoid so i dont think it goes to that. cheers, mark.

Yeah, it is the pressure exchange soleniod, i did a search on it as i didnt have time to look today and appearently this can cause boost problems if its clagged up, it can be cleaned with brake/clutch cleaner as with the bcs. If you checked the bcs plumbing and all was well i would suggest flushing both the bcs and the pes with cleaner and see how you go from there. Heres couple of linx to go on with
