Default ecu question

Got hold of a z4 ecu for my93 impreza
But how do i know it is ? The insides look the same.
The sticker is the only thing to say z4.


Help please
U8, W6, 2C - WRX 92-94 My old one is U8
1C, V5, V9, 3B - WRX Wagon(inc Auto)
W9 - WRX RA 93/94
SB - WRX STi
Z4 - WRX 95/96,
Z5, 6K - WRX RA 95/96
7K - WRX STi 2 RA
7D, 6D, V7 - Aus & Euro Turbo

You don't really.
I would guess you could try and check the serial numbers on the chipsets but that would be bloody hard to find which ones were put in.

Just put it in and go for a drive and see if you notice any difference i know i did when i swapped mine.

a question i have aksed myself. nothing to stop someone buying one, swapping the cases with a 240 ps version and then selling on as a z4 again.
as said though, the boost pressure would be a giveaway for the new buyer.

BINGO MY THOUGHTS ASWELL!!!!!!

Is there anyway of checking it out of the car ie plugging it in to a machine...

Just plug it in and check, it only takes a few minutes. Disconnect battery though, just in case, you don't want to damage it.

being thick plug in ecu and check what???

Well just go drive it. Have you got a boost gauge? Check what it boosts before and after. If you haven't got a gauge you should be able to tell the difference also.
