Default Engine light

After going up North (scotland) for New Year I decided i had to fill the Impreza with "normal unleaded" usually run it on Tesco or V-power.

After about 50 odd miles the engine management light starts flashing......then it stays on

I decide to park up for about 10-15mins.....start the car light still on

It's been on ever since, going to the garage tomorrow.

Any ideas what it could be?

If you read the fault code it should tell you.
I can't remember how to get the code out but it's been discussed here many times. It involves getting at some wiring connectors and counting the flashes of the dash light.

Hi again, with your car you'll need to find someone with a diagnostic computer.
You've got a diagnostic port on the panel directly below the steering wheel and the computer will need plugging in to read the code and reset the light.
Could be it was just a glitch and the light just needs resetting as quite a few of the fault codes the light remains on even when the fault has gone until you reset it.
Most places charge 1/2 hr labour to plug you in.
Let us know how you get on.

Glad you've got it sorted, i'd keep an eye on it though as some of the oiled induction kit filters were causing contamination of the MAF sensor in some cars.
