Funny AFR readings
After fitting my an AFR gauge into MY96WRX it never really seems to read right! I know i need a wideband etc etc but this will have to do for now.
When flooring the throttle it sits on lean until i back off the throttle fully then it it shoots up to rich
I thought it was meant to go up to rich as your boosting then drop back down when you lift off the throttle??
I think the Lambda might be fubbard so can i get one from subaru? I don't fancy getting a universal jobbie as i've heard they don't work as well.
Thanks
Alan

You can't use a stock two point Oxygen sensor for running a 'lambda meter', it will always produce garbage, having ais that rich should still read rich and vice versa.
Even if it is reading 'back to front' it won't be the sensor from what you describe, but its possible you have either a slight misfire or exhaust leak adding oxygen to the exhaust so the sensor reads lean....

my afr gauge reads backwards, its wired to the lambda sensor in my downpipe. on boost its reading full lean, on over run its reading super rich. I tested the gauge using a precison power supply. the more voltage the lambda sends out the richer the mix, maxing at 0.9 i think so i applied 0.9v to the gauge and it showed very lean. so backwards.
afr from the lambda isnt very accurate but its a good way to see if your running lean when on boost, much better than nothing! dont expect results from the gauge for a few mins from a cold start as it needs to warm up, then it should be dancing around, rich to lean to rich etc when off boost.

Yeah it does dance around when warm but when boosting it sits on lean then when you lift off the throttle it shoots up to rich.I thought it was meant to light up rich when the throttle is pressed?

mines a swoosh, analog sweeping style, ive looked at other makes of the same type of gauge and the rich and lean are opposite to mine. does seem odd that an led type gauge would read backwards..

when you read the afr on the select moniter when it goes negative that means it's rich and when it goes positive that means it's weak, but remember the later models do have a separate sensor to read afr.
