Default 2003 WRX ...WHAT BHP?

Hi there,
i have a 2003 wrx...it has a full stainless exhaust system with only a sports cat on the up pipe to the turbo...it also has a k+n typhoon induction kit....The car seems alot more rapid than my 2001 wrx that i had ....i was just wondering what sort of bhp you think i would be getting with these simple mods..any opinions.....cheers

Not a lot more than standard without them mapped in.

I doubt it has a sports cat in the up-pipe. What it may have is the OE pre-cat up-pipe still in place with a full decat after the turbo. If it has been map'd to suit it may be IRO 280-290bhp, and could creep over 300 with a decat UP. To get any more will cost serious money as the fuel pump, injectors, turbo and intercooler are all getting to their limits. If you want to make it faster than it is, concentrate on chassis/handling mods now.

I was told it had a sports cat in the up pipe, but i dont no,its not the original up pipe as i compared it to my friends standard car of the same age..i dont no if its been mapped as there is no reciept for it in the reciepts i have...it runs very smoothly all the way through the rev range....what is a rough price for getting the car mapped??

Usually IRO 600 for the first map, after that it gets cheaper as you will own a license for the software and just pay for the hire of the RR and the mapper.

This is my old WRX, you will need mapping to get near these figures. 280 BHP is not unrealistic but look to WHP and you won't go far wrong.

Prior to having my Map done my 2002 WRX was 238bhp on Dyno dynamics rollers. (standard power 2002 wrx is 218bhp)

That was with HKS hi flow panel filter, 3" Turbo back zorst,STI8 top mount inter cooler and a Uprated fuel pump fitted.

So with the mods you've done you might get 5-10 bhp at the most.

The true tuning comes from your Map/mapper, the td04 turbo in WRX's wont get you over 300hp it doesn't have the capacity. With all supporting mods you'll get around the 280 area.

hope this helps.

Im not really trying for 300bhp,im just happy with 250 up...but as i said there is such a difference from my old 2001 wrx...Are there any tell tale signs if it has been remapped....if the car had the exhaust and the filter fitted but was not mapped ,would it run rough or would there be any thing to look out for in the way it drives,or is it a simple case of better performance....cheers
