Default non red top engine in a wrx sti trpe r v limited?

i've seen a 1997 wrx sti type r v limited for sale i thought all of these had the red top engine but this 1 doen't. the guy who is selling it says they don't all have it plus it has the newer dash in it. the bloke wants £6000 for the car its done about 59k fresh import and it has the roof vent. should it have the red top engine?

If its an STi Type R it will have driver controlled centre diff and water spray as standard; they are the usual visual clues.

A fatory fitted roof vent would normally indicate an STi variant.

Don't assume that its a wrx engine as it doesn't have the red inlet manifold; although most did, some of the earlier STi's didn't.

Not all had the red inlet manifold.

I have a 99 v5 Type R it does and I believe in the latter years they did. In the previous years some didn't.

If it's a fresh import have it mapped immediately! Don't listen to anyone who tells you rebuilds are caused by a bad oil pump.THEY'RE NOT!

It's down to pre ignition. On cylinder 3 I believe. Suffers too much heat. This info was given by Dave at APi who's done more rebuilds than had hot dinners.

Try not to sustain long periods at high revs (5th at over 140). They don't like it.

It's a non-STI WRX Type R Limited......basically it's a wrx with 2 doors, no dccd, regular wrx engine (no forged pistons, no sti intercooler etc), but I believe it still has 280bhp if it's a version 4, i.e. newer shape dash etc. At that price it sounds like a good buy.

It will run perfectly well on shell v-power - myths of them only being able to run on 100+ron fuel are just that, myths. 100 ron wasn't widely available in Japan in 1997 so 99 ron v-power is fine.
