Default Judder, mis fire, stutter?

Any ideas guys, I'll try and include as much detail as possible.

95 WRX import
Super unleaded
NGKPFR6B plugs, (used to have PFR6G)
New oil & filter
New fuel filter
Simota performance panel filter
New coolant

Fault: Put foot down hard, its accelerates hard, then judders, then accelerates again. Around the same rev range. in all gears. Sounds / feels like a mis fire. Not comfortable with it at all.

Went on rolling road today to try and identify fault. They thought it may be the AFR (air flow rate) which would be the MAF, which if I'm right in saying is that bi-metalic sensor thing in the black plastic square tube straight after the air filter. Took it out and cleaned it with brake cleaner. Ran on rolllers again and there was a obvious change on the curve on the graph. Which you would expect after cleaning it, but it was an improvment.

It does also seem to make a difference for the better if I change it back to a standard panel filter. Would a less restrictive performance panel filter increase air flow so much so that a dodgy MAF would be affected so much and cause serious judder / mis fire?

How much is the MAF sensor seperate (if you can fit it seperatly) or in housing from Subaru, or where can I get a good / cheap one from?

Or can you experts suggest something else, open to any ideas. It has to run around the Nurbergring in 6 weeks, so I need this issue solved ASAP.

Cheers guys,

Darryl

The maf on early cars is fairly expensive as you have to buy the whole black box thing.Think i paid about £200 (don't if this is good or bad price)

If you havent already gapped your plugs, bring them in to 0.6mm before you try anything else.

agree with coil pack suggestion. If you have changed plugs you may of inadvertently damaged them further as the tips become brittle under the rubber cap.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I disconnected my MAF with the engine running today and it cut out. I think I'm right in saying, if this happens the MAF is ok. If it was to keep running the MAF is at fault??? If I can get a cheap MAF off flee Bay I'll try that next, just for a piece of mind.

My next question is - On my 95 WRX import (260 Bhp) are all the HT leads / coil packs the same i.e. the same length? If so, by process of elimination I could just buy one or two (as their about £60 - 70 each) and try changing one at a time to see which one, if any is at fault. But that would be if their all the same length. Or is one longer than all the rest?

Or any other ideas?

Cheers,

Darryl

there is no point changing one coil pack, been there done that.. they all break down inside about the same time.. the car will be transformed by replacing all four.

The maf is only a weak point on the 99~00 car and very unlikely to be the problem.

Does any one know the part number from Subaru for coil packs. Single bolt for a 95 WRX import. So I can aid the very unhelpful parts man at Subaru to identify what I want? Think their around the £68 mark???

Or does any one know of another brand / make of coil pack to use?

Cheers guys

someone posted details on pattern ones on ebay a while back.

Or I think Mark at Lateral Performance stocks them.
