Tried the seal, well stuck my nose round it, the only place i get a bit of a wiff is around the filler cap its just that the smell is very strong my only other option is to light a match and set fire to the bloody thing!

i had a similar problem on saturday i traced the leak to the hose that connects to where the standard fuel pressure regulator lived (opposite side to all the other fuel pipes) I fitted a new steel braided hose and its been fine ever since.Might be worth a look round there.I only noticed the smell when sat idle in traffic, when on the move i couldnt smell anything

I unlock the car, start it and then help my wee boy into the back, he always says he can smell petrol. right enough, once i pull my head out from buckling him in there is a very strong guff of fuel aroung the filler cap.
weird really as there is no signs of leaks anywhere!

A mate had a problem with the pipe from the filler cap to the tank, the connecting pipe bends ( has a plastic shields on it's underside ) and collects damp dirt / mud etc. which rotted the pipe and a fuel smell , fuel leak when filling / full tank.
Had to replace the pipe.
As the fuel system is pressurised ( for the injectors ) any small holes or weeping hose / pipe would let out some fume, not sure how much the tank is pressurised but on low fuel I get a noticable Pouff when unscrewing the fuel cap!
