Default lambda / Maf required...How much ?

I've been getting that surging feeling everyone talks of on here.
I have a MY99 UK wagon with 66,500 miles on clock ( only had car 2 months ).
It has recently started to do the surging thing even worse when warm. It even feels like that on the motorway in 5th at 70-80 sometimes....
I disconnected the Lambda today and it seemed to be ok ....It's now back on and back to it's strange self...
From on here it would appear i should change both....What do u think ????
Where in Edinburgh area can i get it looked at and new bits sorted for a reasonable price ? Don't want an engine failure
Any help with advice would be appreciated..

From any dealer a MAF will be about £75 part No 22794AA010

A lambda froma dealer will cost an absolute fortune, usually £150ish part No 22690AA321

You could always get a 3 wire zircon one and splice the wires in, don't ask me how but many people onhere have done that.
Saves a ton on dealer prices.

Yep MY99/00 MAF's are pretty weak, just get a replacement from the dealer using the part number above.

Dead easy to replace this yourself, just need a T20 Secure Torx or normal torx bit if you snap the pins out.
Unplug, remove the 2 torx screws, pull old one out and replace. Simple.

Stay away from induction kits and just use the standard airbox with a decent filter to help prolong life.

Cheers for that mate..It does seem to have got more noticeable since i put in a green panel filter....cotton dry one.
Don't think that'll have made matters worse do you ??

Probably not, as mentioned the MAF's are weak.
Green filter is pretty good and well recommended, on my old MY99 STi Type R, I ran a Blitz SUS followed by a Blitz LM IK, both killed MAF's and the SUS couldn't filter a house brick.
Went back to the OEM airbox with a K&N filter, never had any problems, run this in my newage as well.

Some people treat them as service item on these MY's and replace them every year.

P.s the Lambda needs a 22mm spanner to remove that bugger.

So having read this and trying not to hijack....but do you actually need the lambda plugged in at all?

Been wanting to test mine to see if it is causing a slight twitching when idling but dont know how!

Make sure you get the right one, a £45 universal one won't work.

A genuine Subaru one, new or used.
This is the front 02 sensor on a newage, 4 wire heated one as per first post.
