advice and opinion on dump valve please
I am picking up a 2000 uk spec impreza, and was thinking about getting a dump valve. Basically,i would like to know the pro`s and cons of getting one,and will i need to mess about with anything else in the car in order to get one? Any opinions, idea`s or constructive critisism welcome. Thanking you in advance...

They do zero for an Impreza other than the noise.
If you want one - get one. I did
You will find that a shed load of people will be along in a min to explain how "chavvy" they are - **** em

The car has already got one and it is the best one for the job. Spend your money on chassis/suspension/brake mods if you want a proper fast car, leave the Chav $h!te to the Lax Power Nova/Saxo boys.
So **** me

Enjoy the overfueling, jerky response, bore wash, thin oil, cat damage, valve damage and backfiring

You may find this a source of good info, esp post #19 by Andy F - a well respected subrau builder and mapper.

Personally I think my MY01 runs much better with the standard dump valve on rather than the SSQV VTA I had fitted for a while - I did like the noise tho, but I'm a big kid
And keep an eye out for MAF related problems on a MY00 - The MAF is weaker on 99/00, not a particularly expensive part to replace if it does have a problem, but can upset the running in quite a major way if it fails. A VTA dump valve won't cause MAF issues but it may cause similar symptoms masking a MAF issue which may be there.
Don't read this as totally negative, you may fit a dump valve, run perfectly well and love it, and your MAF may be spot on for a long time - just pointing out some issues which 'may' occur.

Although I do like the noise and pops and bangs
Do a search, you'll find loads of info on here. IMO they sound cool but bugger it up. I also think the jerkyness can lead to gearbox damage once you start bumping up the BHP.

Different people have different effects (if any at all). You could say the same as an example. Buying an old Skoda and 1 in 10 bought will run like a dream while the other 9 should of been scraped years before.
I havn't actually looked myself, but is there any factual evidence that a vta dump valve can cause so many problems etc?

It's the fact that it's metered by the MAF that's the problem. The ECU fuels for the MAF metered air, and when that air is lost in a rousing ptsssssssh!!!!, the fuel is still injected as if it's all OK, resulting in borewash, oil thinning, backfiring, cat damage, interupted exhaust flow, valve disruption and potential damage. You can run a BOV if you run an ECU which doesn't use a MAF, no problem.
