Default OIL CHANGE - HELP - CLASSIC WRX

Just half way through changing the oil on the scooby, i read on SIDC that you need to remove the crank sensor before restarting the car...where the chuff is that?? Theres a light grey/brown clipped sensor, just beneath the alternator...is that it??

Whats the purpose of removing the crank sensor?
