You've covered the most likely candidates.

If that's a VTA dump valve get rid of it and put the OE recicrulating one back on.

Get it to a specialist for a diagnostic test.

I know it might be stating the obvious, but have you checked the OBD? Other possibilties are cranksensor, fuel filter, or (hopefully not) ECU, best of luck....

You mention a coil pack (singular) ... so if you do have the single coil pack have you tried changing the HT leads?

On Board Diagnostics ... when you connect the relevant wires up under the steering wheel and get a code read out of any recorde problems from sensors etc via the flashing engine light in the instrument cluster

ideling is fine but if you hold the car at about 2500 to 3000rpm it splutters off boost this is

might be the timing then, worth getting it checked out, as said his was affected at ideling not higher revs so could imagine it could be affected at any rev amount

Swapped the MAF today for the one in my mates My99 and it sorted the running problems and totally got rid of the flatspot. So it seems that this could also be your problem..

Wasn't a second hand one was it? Was there any improvement after you swapped it for any length of time?

Still say you should get shot of the VTA dump valve.

Go and try this ..... it might cheer you up (well hopefully). Find a dark place (as pitch black as you can get it) and look at the HT leads and coil while the engine is running. You might see some sparks jumping to earth at the coil bracket area this indicates the place the faulty lead(s) is plugged in. You might also see glowing areas within the faulty lead where the HT voltage is jumping across the failing conductor.

Then if you do see a faulty lead hopefully one of the ones you have been supplied might be long enough to try out.

Let us know how you get on with your luck.

Has someone suggested the fuel pump then?

I would have thought if it was the fuel pump, it would struggle when over 3000rpm not below it.

On the fuel side of things have you had the fuel filter changed recently?

and maybe try another set of plugs.

Someone mentioned OBD ! This is an excellent tool for fault finding / CEL (Check Engine Light) code viewing / clearance etc. Plus it allows full data view of most engine sensor components etc. I recently organised a GB over at the ESC.

I will be getting some more devices very soon.

To have a look at the capabilities of this equipment, have a look at https://www.scoobynet.com/essex-scoo...good-tool.html if you wanted be included in the next batch.

Regards,

Steve

I'm a firm beleiver in trying to sort thing out yourself but in this case I think you well and truly beaten.

The worse thing is, I bet they find the problem in a couple of minutes and it's something simple
