Default WHICH OIL??

Hi can anyone tell me what the best oil is for my 2001 wrx please? Have heard that they only like subaru oil is this just a load of bollocks or is there some truth in it? Have some 10w-40 semi synth in the garage will this do?

Thanks in advance

This discussion has cropped up a number of times - try searching for OIL... some swear by Mobil1 from what I can make out...

Other more knowledgeable people on here may tell you different, but in my brief experience there is no set make of oil for them.

One main dealer i spoke to uses Castrol GTX Magnatec, and one used from memory Shell Helix(?? ).

I think as long as it is the correct consistency it does not matter as much which make.

Although from what i was told by both garages, the Classics are better suited to 10/40,but the newage ones 5/40,so i would not put the 10/40 in yours.

Hi mate I went to my subaru dealer and they recommended shell helix plus. All my mate use this on their scoobs as its designed for turbo'd engines.

Not sure what Subaru main dealer put in the last time they serviced mine, it says 'synthetic blend' on the invoice.

Powerstation put 'pros10w50' (fully synthetic) when they did my last service.

5w-40 or 10w-40.

The 5w-40 would be better for cold start performance.

Cheers

I just bought my car,and it had always had 5/40 in it,but after speaking to Subaru, they said a Classic should really be 10/40,so i changed to that, and the car does feel sweeter,so i have to agree.
