Its come to the time when my scoob needs its midlife major service. Cam belt etc. Has anyone found any other things to look out for other than those listed in the service manual? While they have the car in bits they might as well fiddle with stuff that needs attention. Also Im toying with the idea of a full exhaust system, so im guessing that i could kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Its for a 02' bug eye WRX

On mine i needed a new cambelt hydraulic tensioner, and a new idler roller was fitted at the same time.
The tensioner was weeping oil, so its a case of, leave it and take a chance or change it to be safe.
The idler roller, there are two of them, one contains a better bearing than the other for some reason, it has a full width bearing, whereas the other one only has a half width bearing in it for the same wider roller. So RCM say they normally 'mod' the crap one to match the better bearing roller.
Not cheap, as the idler was 80 i think and the tensioner was 100 or so.
But i took their advice and changed the idler.
Since they have serviced it, it has Pro R oil in it too which i have not seen, but i now have some as again they know what they are doing.
No other things to look out for unless the garage mechanics find anything, and of course as you say, you dont ask them to do anything! LOL.

Where did you take your motor? I normally go to the clinic, but they hav'nt got back to me yet with a date or price.

For the 50k i went to Roger Clark's Motorsport.
I have been to a few of them over the years as i like to go have a look and a chat! And being as they are all around an hour and a half away from me, i only go at service time. LOL.
Its just a matter of personal preference really.

Yikes 50k service, mines also due in 5k . I hate spending money on servicings when I want to spend the money on mods .

Scoobyclinic were the cheapest for the service. Carnetix mentioned something about the cambelt hydraulic tensioner seals which they advise customers to have done (as the cambelt is off anyway). Adds about £80 the the servicing cost. I guess front brake discs are near the end of their life as well at 50k.

When is yours due Rich? If we go together maybe we can get a discount .

50,345 miles at present! I should have organised it during the school hols, so Tash could take it up for me. So its either a staurday or day off work now! Doh.......

Ive just got off the phone from Scoobyclinic.

They tell me that my cam belt change isnt due till 60k. Not what my owners manual says. It clearly states 50k cam belt change.

Even Graham Goode web site say servicing should be every 7,500 miles! Has the world gone mad???

I've also had a ring round today ref the 50k service. Roger Clark Motorsport also said something about getting the car serviced every 7.5k and they were the most expensive . Carnetix, TSL and Subaru were all around the £450 mark . Scoobyclinic are definately the cheapest and the cam belt is defo at 50k.

Yeah I know the feeling. My rear tyres aren't the best and the neutral position switch keeps throwing on the ECU warning light under hard acceleration .

I had RCM tell me they dont change the cam belt at 50k as well. They use different service intervals. But at the end of the day, the book says 50k, you want it changing, so they will change it as you ask them to.
Where to go is of course going to differ. It all comes down to personal preference, and where my car is concerned, that is NOT ever ruled by price.
Like one of the many daft sayings say, "you pays your money, you takes your choice!"

I think 7,500 miles is oil and filter change m8 not the full monty, anyone tried Zen Performance, I have heard some great things about them and am considering taking mine there for the 60K. Very reasonable prices aswell considering the stealership want £750
How much does the clinic charge and other specialists around South as I am in Hertfordshire?

And not a cheap one at that!
I have to stay away from all places that do Subaru mods, it is too hard on the bank account.
I mean, now i want stuff like Defi BF's and other stuff. Unreal in the head i am. Mind you, for what that would cost to buy and fit i would probably get a few more engine mods done tbh.
The only thing stopping me then doing that, is the destruction of the gearbox on my WRX. I really cannae be arsed with going that far. lol.

Is this Carnetix the people who left TSL to set up their own place? If so, im guessing that they have some good knowledge? Ive always been to the clinic, but Chesterfield can be a bit of a pain to get to from Newark. Melto is just a short blast down the A46 for me. Can anyone give me Carnetix details?

Yes it is. Becky and Glenn own and run Carnetix. Glenn worked on my car as did Becky when i went to TSL. Also working in the same building although under his own business is Richard Bulmar, mapping guru also ex-TSL.
He runs Tracktive Solutions from there too. He mapped my car after TSL did all my mods.
All very good and nice to work with indeed.
Will have to try them myself, LOL.

Just returned from my 50k service from Carnetix. Becky & Glynn are very helpful and tell you straight. Had a slight problem with the rear pads sticking. Previous services missed this, so I was impressed with the level of detail you get from them. I also liked the fact that they are willing to advise on where best to spend your money...... and not pushing you to spend more.

Top job guys! Thanks for the coffee (even that was a good cup).

Had my 50k done at HDC Subaru in Hebdon Bridge. I provided the oil, they did the work including the cambelt and coolant drop (easier to do belt with rad off) for £206. Fitted me in the next day when another place couldn't get me in for 4 weeks and wanted £70 more.

Coolant drop? Thats at 60k in my book? Anyway, good service and price so looks good to me!
Cost me a few quid more for my bits like but all necessary all the same, lol.

Coolant is supposed to be 60k, but as I said, it's easier to do the cambelt with the rad off, hence new coolant.
