Default Car cutting out.

I ve the GEMS ECU fitted on my car for the last 2 years now but since i had it remapped at the beggining of last month, when i pull away from idle it always wants to die and sometimes does, i always need to give it a lot more throttle than previously and sometimes it will splutter and chuck out loads of black smoke... ie... running a bit too rich on idle, im sure its definatley fuel related, just wondering weather it will need another re-map for idling control.
Any help would be much appreciated, cheers guys.

Is this happening at start up whether hot or cold? My bug with a gems usually has to sit for 10-15 seconds to settle down then is ok. If I am in a bit of a rush I just gently press the gas to get the revs up then once it has cleared it's throat the revs pickup and all is well. Just looked at your thread you say when pulling away mine does the same occasionally normally at the most embarissing moments. A pain but if I get my mapper to look at it I will have driven 400 miles and then there is no chance of it doing it.

It happens once the engine has warmed up, same with you if i gently raise the revs it seems to be ok, but as you said it happens at the most embarrasing of times, either in traffic or when someone is admiring your car,
Doh!!!, but you should be able to pull away normally without arsing about with the throttle, again ill have to travel a 400 mile round trip aswell to get it sorted. Who maps your car ?

Yea Steve Simpson mapped it, so i know that he is a great guy with vasts amounts of experience so i would not even think of questioning his ability, id asume that maybe its just probably the characteristics of that particular ECU.
Gforce has been taken over by DS Automotives, the guy who now owns it outgrew his old place just around the corner, they have pretty much retained most of the staff, so they are still there, i purchased all of my APS stuff from them.

I did the same two years ago, I would never complain about Steve. He has always been helpful even when I rang him between Xmas and New Year. I am thinking about getting more APS stuff mainly the fuel distribution system complete. Ok the aux injectors will be fitted but not connected, no fuel pipes connected just saves stripping down again. That's the plan but like the weather in Scotland it can change quite easily.

Sounds good, have you got a certain figure to aim for or just going with the flow ?

Currently putting 360 down, looking for more. Where I stop depends on how I feel, the plan will be to get all the bits together then spend ????time fitting it all before travelling down to steve for a session on the rollers and laptop. As I said thats the plan currently but who knows what will happen.

I took a trip to WRC Tech in silverstone last month and they were in the process of completing a customers Bugeye with the total, full APS treatment including the DR55 rotated race turbo, 8 injector set up, all the fuel line bits and bobs, the engine bay looked like a work of art, the guy said that it would be running at least 550bhp, there must have been nearly £20k worth of stuff under the bonnet, that included a stroked HKS bottom end and that was all in one visit.
Money ehh.

Lottery win, I know the fuel system is abot £1200 with VAT. The main way I will save money is doing the main labour myself as I enjoy getting stuck in with the spanners. I fitted all my Tein Flex suspension with EDFC and some other bits. It's only the specialist work that I would pay to have done.

I think I must be going

Yea i know what you mean, ive done all the mechanical work on my car myself aswell, being a car techinician also helps i suppose, a month after starting my new job at the beggining of last year my engine went bang, big style and my boss let me use the workshop to work on my car whilst i had a rally specialist build me a very strong and stroked bottom end, i reckon i must have saved thousands and thousands of pounds just on labour alone in total time of working on my car.
