Has the car been mapped or modified in anyway!

My previous scoobys smelled of petrol once I either decatted the car or had it mapped! I was behind my mates Type RA yesterday and I could smell the petrol from his car everytime he gave it some.

check your manifold when the engine is running (from cold) and see if you have any leaks

I had this problem.

there is a small valve that can leak and blow turbo pressure in to the fuel tank, you only know when you smell fuel and go to fill up and remove the cap it releases it and it blows fuel at you!

Is this true? i could well have this problem here occasionally i get a petrol smell when driving an then when i go to fill up there seems to be a fair bit of preassure released from the fuel tank its a MY93 WRX any idea where the valve is or would you be able to send me some pics of it?, will i just need to replace it or what? Cheers in advance for any help.

You will get some pressure when you unscrew the tank cap.
Your'll find you get more pressure pushed out in the summer months.

I sometimes get a smell of fuel after a run in my car. It only does it when there is more than about 2/3rds of a tank of juice in there. I've only noticed it since it's been tweaked.. although not convinced this smell is down to the uprated fuel pump. Taken it in for inspection - apparently no problems!
