Default oil change protecdure

Hi all, ive hunted and hunted hundreds of threads on this one, but alot of the answers link to a page for a procedure and then that link is dead etc, so i have decided to ask :-)

I just want to do an oil change and would like to know the standard procedure

All i would naturally do is

1/ empty oil and remove oil filter
2/ stick new oil filter on and refil engine

you can see im a professional mechanic :-)

Ta all in advance

yep, thats it, some people like to fill the new oil filter with new oil to save all that air being pushed through the bearing,

some people like to cold crank the engine, basickly remove a cam sensor so the engine doesnt fire up and turn the engine over a few times, but thats just silly.

just remember to let the engine idle for a min or 2, and then your off

thats what subaru do

if i do crank the engine, what does that mean exactly? just literally turning the key? and for how long?

Also, this sensor thing, where is it and how do i take it off?

Many thanks!

dont worry about all that mate, just run engine up to temp,so oil is nice and thin ( hot tho so be careful) drain it off, remove oil filter, wait till all oil is drained, fit new filter, put sump plug back in with new washer, fill with appropriate oil to max level, start engine ,count to 10, turn off engine and check/top up oil. DONE!!!!!

My advise is to never use engine flush.Engine flush breaks down grease and oils, even after draining this stuff out you can never remove it all as it sits in places that cannot fully drain. When you put in your fresh oil this then mixes with the small amount of degreasant which can compromise the fresh oil.
Other people may say otherwise, the choice is yours.

I don't add a flushing agent to the oil but I do use a lower spec oil from work (free). Having drained the oil, fill with afore mentioned oil and let engine IDLE for 10 mins or until I have finished my coffee. By the way this oil is for diesel engines and haas a higher degree of detergent than petrol oil. Drain, remove filter and then replace. Having filled oil start engine let run for 30secs to a minute turn off and check and top-up if necessary.

by removing say a cam/crank sensor plug you can stop the engine from fireing up, so wen u turn the key the engine turns over and does not start.

but the is no point in it as the engine is still turning over just a tiny bit slower, as i said subaru dont even do this so dont loose sleep over it or anythin hehe

Doesn't do any harm to fill the oil filter with oil, I do that while the thing is ticking over with the flush in it.
Don't bother pissing about with cam and crank sensors, it's all hyped up bollox.

Drain, remove filter, screw on new one, refill and start the bloody thing up.
Not had one go bang yet and by sure I've done a few of them by now.
