DO NOT DRIVE IT IF THERE IS A LEAK - GET IT SORTED IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL END UP CAUSING DAMAGE.
The plastic end caps on the radiator are prone to cracking and this could be the route of the problem, however it could easily be something else.
You say you have limited mechanical knowledge so get the car to the garage ASAP - best get it picked up to avoid cooking the car. Hopeful no terminal damage has been caused - hope you get it sorted mate.

fill it with water again, put the cap back on and then start the engine and let it tick over.Keep an eye on your temp gauge to make sure it dosent get to hot,and keep looking under the bonnet and try and see where it is comming from. But make sure you keep an eye on the gauge.

if you have still got water in it then run the engine with the bonnet open let it get up to temp and look for any leaks on the side of the radiator. you may need to open the throttle by hand to get more pressure, but if you do be very careful as hot water burns. Also check your top rad hose and also lower rad hose for leaks. Also when car is up to temp, bottom rad hose should get warm/hot

Don't drive it anymore.
You have a water leak somewhere and running that car for ANY length of time will cost you an engine.
If you have to drive it to your local specialist, make sure that the water is topped up at all times. If it can't make the journey without using all the water, call them out to you. The cost of getting your car recovered by the specialist is cheaper than a new engine.
Also, if it overheats don't put cold water into a hot engine, you'll make matters worse.

If it's a rad leak, I'd imagine 2-3 hundred (just a guess) or £100 to do it yourself (cheaper if you can find a cheap rad on eBay). You used to be able to get patching kits for radiator matrixes, but it's probably not a good idea on an Impreza.
It's all speculation at this point, mate. Might not be the rad at all. If it were me, I'd identify where the leak is coming from and fix it IMMEDIATELY. Alloy engines don't like being overheated. If you are in any doubt at all, take it to a specialist or get a mechanically minded friend to take a look.
BTW, I think the rocker cover gasket has nothing to do with this problem.

yes red scoop it going to garage tomorrow i really really appreciate your help . well the very first thing i noticed was that no warm air coming from heater and then after a bit all steam etc. what these heater got to do with raditor??? they connected??? r u from northwest area???
#15
Nope, afraid not - I'm in east anglia.
There's no warm air coming from the heater because there's no hot water in the system to heat the air. Hope you get it sorted quickly, hopefully no damage has been done. If you're lucky it'll just be a split hose....

ok mate well qhen i drove back home for 1 mile temp was normal . well not going to risk it cars getting towed mate i will inform u tomorrow wats wrong with it thanks once again

If you cant see a leak at first then you loose all the water its a good chance that its the radiator side since the thermostat doesnt allow water to flow through the radiator till the engine is at running temp. Since your loosing the water so quickly i would guess its a burst hose though. Radiators usually have very small holes in them unless its cracked where the pipes couple up. The garage should be able to fix it though if theyre any good.

to be honest i havent even checked for leaks all iknow is that when car temp rised then i swicthed teh engine off and went for football practice and after an hour just topped the car up with water ( as it was all empty) and drove for about 1 mile to home ( temperature was normal didnt overheat) and its parked since then . and then after a bit i checked it again there was no water in it?
