Gutless
Hi all,
I own a 94 wrx 260ps model. does anybody who owns one of these find them gutless until the 4k mark then all hell breaks lose after that??? i just find it gutless until 4k, now i know the td05 has a late spool up but surely its not like this. Anyone else experiencing this.
What is the best upgrade to get the torque going low down...i like power but i dont like the way you have to ring its neck to get it going, have i got a problem somewhere.
Bob

Well I've got a 98 WRX wagon with a TD04, and mine spools up from 2500 revs, pretty much full boost by 3000. Admittedly it's a wagon and I'm led to believe that the wagon ECU combined with the smaller turbo is pretty much designed for mid range lugging ability rather than top end outright power, but it's still pulling all the way to the redline.

I`ve got a 95 WRX and my turbo comes on boost at about 2800-3000ish and holds until redline.
When it hits 3000rpm i think its on full boost as it pulls constantly till redline.

The turbo is fine, spools up well and hits hard...no funny noises or smoke. I will test it today but im sure it comes on boost around 3k but really starts to pull at around 4k.
What do you do with the lambda sensor once you de-cat it ?????

Oh forget to mention, my wagon's not exactly bog standard. The headers are the only original bit of the exhaust. H&S up-pipe and decatted centre, GGR sports cat downpipe, STi backbox. I'd imagine the exhaust would help with spooling the turbo up quick.

Sorry to hyjack m8, the lambda sensor goes in the new threadded hole in the new down pipe (same place as before). When you decat it the turbo spools up a little faster and you can hear it doing so much more loudly.

I agree with motorsportnicko, I have a MY95 and the boost comes in at 2800. 4k seems quite late... I think the explosive power delivery is just the nature of these engines, maybe your boosting at 3k but by the time you've looked down at the revs you're up to 4.

Isn't the lambda sensor in the headers on this model ?
I had a MY94 WRX and fitted a H&S downpipe, had to blank off the lambda sensor hole. The later cars have the sensor in the downpipe. The wire to the downpipe on the early car is probably a cat pre-heater.
