Default Anyone using an ITG panel filter on newage without problems??

I'm still debating wether to use this filter I've bought - as long as it is visibly not more oily than a green/ k&N filter I think I may risk it...

I think a few of the problems have been caused by the filter being too oily...

I've done a search, read loads of threads and now more confused than ever

[QUOTE=Jamesemt] I think I may risk it...QUOTE]

Why??? If you have done some research and acknowledge there is a risk why on earth would you still do it?

Buy a Green, K&N or STi.

Because I don't think there is a risk - I think it's more to do with how oily the filer is, as opposed to the make

When I took out my ITG filter and repleced it with the (less oily) K&N I put it in the garage with the rest of my bits !! It left a really messy oily patch on the floor !!!

Better on the garage floor

The ITG one was waxy instead oily so not as mobile and so less likely to harm MAF.

My early classic had an ITG filter from the old pete croney Scoobysport, for 2 years with no problems, and an alternativer induction system for last 3 years, on same MAF! reason for change - ditched air box!

when i bought my wrx it already had an itg filter fitted from new (prev owner).when i swapped it for a green filter i noticed some oily/waxy residue in the air box.what i couldnt work out was why the goo was on the inlet side of the filter & not the maf side? i know many have never had a prob with itg but i felt happier with the green.

My ITG filter has caused NO problems at all and is'nt that oily to be honest. The MAF side of the filter is completly clean with absolutely no trace of any oil migrating through. My mate has run an ITG filter for over 35K with no problems and ZERO migration of oil through it.

I have read alot of the scare stories on here, but questioned if a company like ITG would manufacture and continue to manufacture a product that caused problems. If they produced a product that caused problems their customer base would soon disapear and yhey would go out of business which obviously is'nt the case!!

You'd have to try very hard to get it wrong.

Coupe-se - Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't change the fact that these filters have caused failures.

The waxy oil falls downwards, isn't sucked thru the filter! So a sticky residue at the bottom ( waits for comments .. )

Not heard of many failures due to ITG filters, to be honest. Nor green or STi filters either. Often due to poor filtration like those stainless steel ones .. no where nearthe sub 2 micron filtration Subaru specify IIRC... hence grit and dust geting into engine and onto MAf on it's way ..

Is'nt it the case though, that the MAF's on certain years on the Classics are now known to be fairly fragile???

My airbox had a sticky residue in it before I changed from a standard airfilter to an ITG. My standard airfilter has a black oily residue on the underside, so I assume its oily muck being sucked through from the outside????

Yeah, later MAF's ( 1998 ish on ?? ) were a thin film type not the hot wire type of earlier models, and the thin film type were supposed to be a bit more sensitive to contamination and foreign objects like dust, dirt, sand, grit etc. amd then failed. But I think these items could be replaced by the sensor element alone for a cheaper price, than the whole item of the earlier cars!
