Question Prep. for tek 3..?

I'm having my 05wrx Ecutek'd next month and have a few things that I'm hoping to do prior to mapping session:

Full decat (presently only centre and BB, have up & down pipe ready to fit)
Uprated fuel pump (walbro 255)
Panel filter (not sure which one..???)
Knocklink

Already have boost gauge.

Note I'm not uprating fuel reg. (advised as unecessary on newage) however I would like an STi IC (if I can get one and funds permit..!).

I'm not looking for big power just to improve on what is already available to give a bit more of an edge. (famous last words of a scooby owner..!) I hope, that by improving the intake and exhust, this should do the trick.

I'd value any opinions on this. Is this a good start, is their anything not worth bothering with or something better I've missed..?

Cheers,
Jason

Change the intercooler hose (to a samco) as it's plastic and can split when boost is increased, if you do get a STi intercooler make sure it comes with the pipe & hoses as they are different to the wrx ones.

Sounds about right, but I was told that the knocklink was not required on a new age with the same mods as your planning as the new age factory knock sensor is pritty good but i guess there is no harm in fitting one if you want to.
Not to sure if the larger i/c will give you any further gains as the TD04 turbo will be at its max with the re-map done , sure someone on here will know.

Jasonius,

This certainly is a good start.

IMHO, I would stick with the knocklink and 'push the boat out' and buy an STI7/8 intercooler.

I wanted to give the scoob 'more of an edge' a couple of years ago. Now I have no money, but a quick car

Good luck with the mods

If you're sticking with the decat, Sti top mount and remap you probably wont need to uprate the fuel pump - unless you intend going bigger and better later on with turbo and inectors (which you most certainly will )

There is a lower pressure drop across the STi or good after market intercooler, to the tune of perhaps 1-2psi. As you said, the TD04 is near its limit, so you can't get that 1-2psi of "wasted" boost back. Therefore, it's a well worthwhile mod

Thanks guys ,

Just need to source an STi IC at the right price..!

With regards to fuel pump, I was told that given that the injectors will run at virtually 100% IDC the extra fuel pressure would help..?

Thanks again,
Jason

Jason

I'd ask the mapper about the fuel pump.....The fuel pump is not just a simple "pump" as the ECU has control over the fuel Pump AFAIK.

If the mapper suggests a better pump I have a Walbro 255 l (unopened) in my garage which is available (bought in error / panic / mapping next week etc..)

Jason,

IMHO, your injectors will be fine and you won't require a FPR whilst retaining your TD04 turbo.
