New Speedo - Rattles
Can somebody help me please?
I've just had a new speedo put in my my96 sti as the mileometer was knackered.
But i'm getting a rattle from the clear plastic front on it when I go over bumps in the road.
And as you can imagine with hard suspension and the ****e roads near me its gonna get a bit anoying.
Is there a way of tightening it up somehow?
Thanks in advance.

Mudfrog, the clear plastic cover is held in by no more than 8 plastic clips. There all part of the moulding. Check to see if any of these are broken or not latched in correctly.
Have you removed a dash display before? if you havn't then just say and i'll talk you through mate.

Hi again. Removing dash....just a bit little fiddly. Before you remove the clock set however you may be able to see the problem before you rip the whole dash apart. However the black trim will still need to come off. once thats off you should be able to see the 8 points i mentioned yesterday. If you cant then remove the 4 or so screws holding clock set in. Once released pull the clocks towards you and all will be revealed. Hopefully.
Failing that to remove the whole lot as below........
1/ Your see a black surround that will need to come off before the main clock set. 2 philips screws iirc. remove these. Release any electrical connections and pull the trim away gently.
2/ Before removing clock set may help to lwr the steering wheel via the adjustment lever (lwr l/h side)
Clock set.....held in with at least 4 philips screws. Remove these. Gently pull clock set towards you again release electrical connections. Theres 3 to remove here. 2 on the r/h side and 1 on the l/h side. Remove speedo cable. Just needs a gentle pull towards the front of the car and it will pop out. These connections a little tricky to get two, you'll have to put your hand behind and work semi blind for this one i'm affraid. Now all the connections are off it just remains to remove the clock set. Bit awkward this but it will come out.
3/ Replacing is just the reverse. The speedo cable is quite tricky. You may need to move the cable drive one way or other to line it all up. Your know when its in correctly. It sort of snaps into place. electrical connections etc etc.
See how you get on. It really isn't that bad. Sound's a lot worse than it really is.

Your a star Rokay!
Will give it a go soon as possible probably at the weekend during the day when there will be a bit more daylight.
Hopefully when i remove the black trim the problem will show itself without having to take out the whole speedo.
Will let you know how i get on.
Thanks again!

No problem bud. Do let me know how you get on
Had all my dash out for a Lockwood white dial mod just recently, so it's all pretty fresh in my mind right now. That mod should be issued with a health warning imo. But thats another story
