Default Changing just the one tyre?

Will it bugger up anything? Got a nasty bulge in the sidewall of my offside front tyre but dunno whether to replace the 2 fronts or whether I can get away with just the one?

the existing pair have been on about 10 months and are 50pc worn max

Replace 2 as a minimum. The difference in the tyres diameters may damage your transmission.

Dave.

Always one to bow to the guys with superior knowledge are you sure about this?

It seems such a severe thing to happen. I haven't gotten my calculator out, but assuming a worn wheel is 1cm difference in diameter to a new tyre will the total circumference difference really cause that much damage?

Surely there must be other things that could cause a similar effect? A slightly misaligned wheel, weight distribution (I'm thinking of the fact that 90% of the use of my car and mileage is me dirivng to work). Yet we don't worry about them.

Richard, I doubt that the difference in rolling diameter will ****-up the trans, over/under tyre pressures will give the same effect.

However, as you do enjoy your car (is the RA trans ok for you still?) grip and predictable handling may be 'upset' in the wet or when pushing on? I think you should change both, ie one axle.

Just a thought.

ps: came to 0.22 seconds of Roy's EVO5 at the last meeting this year at Prescott!

Must have been a good day..... 911

GREAT RESULT!!!!

Yeah I do "enjoy" driving mine so I'm replacing both to be on the safe side - I'll use the good one as a full size spare.

RA transmission is great - toying with the idea of a 6 speeder or a 5 speed with DCCD and use the GEMS to map the diff ecu

The scooby transmission seems pretty robust so shouldn't be any problems (apart from handling as mentioned). Unlike some of the crappy attempts at AWD some manufacturers use, most famous being the Vauxhall effort used in Cavaliers, Calibra etc. 2mm difference in tread or a few PSI pressure difference between any two tyres and your transmission is toast within a thousand miles

The crappy Haldex FWD wannabe system used in VWs and some Audis is pretty fragile too (not proper Audi quattro with the torsen diff as fitted to A4/A6/A8 etc- that's a robust real AWD setup).

Richard, 6 speeder is the only way to go....if you find one CHEAP tell me first!
Will a full size spare fit in the wheel well?

Graham.
