While i'm on the topic whats the differences on the STI's aswell.

No it's not just the turbo.

The differences vary between MYs but to simplify, WRXs have the same bottom end and heads as UK cars, STi have forged pistons and different cams and valve gear.

Question

The main difference between an import and a UK spec classic is about 20 bhp, & the imports have a rear wiper & come in black (as mine does), i think may also have a.c. Differences between an STI & WRX besides obvious body styling, (on STI) larger intercooler, uprated chip, larger brakes, but like my wrx if your planning on new suspension, 6 pot calipers & discs, front mounted intercooler, & new chip with remap then soon enough it i'll be weeing all over STIs, hope this helps

Mines a MY99 UK Turbo

So i've already got 4 pots and larger discs and A/C

I'm more interested in the engine as i'm lookin into what can be changed over from a WRX/STI to my engine in order to improve performance.

Thanks for the help anyway dint know all imports had rear wiper thought it was just the 3 door STI

I would like it if someone could give a positive answer to the orignal question.

I think heple has answered the question now,the heads arent actually different in terms of the bare cast head, its the cams, followers, valves that make it different. The block, crank, con rods are the same, except the sti has forged pistons.
So a bare engine would be the same between a WRX and UK classic on the same MY.

Interms of adding uppgrade parts, you can use anything from an sti 5 or 6 as long as you have the correct supporting mods.

I think what would make the biggest difference, apart from turbo, would be the ECU. But then a JDM ecu will not be mapped for UK fuel

The power difference is a little more than that, a '98Uk car = 215 hp whereas '98Wrx = 276bhp. Certainly worth taking into consideration if looking to buy !

heple1983 what mods are you running already if any?
I to have a MY99 uk, I went to the SIDC rolling road day at Prosport a few months ago and got just over 264bhp and torque was 260. Thats with a full de-cat (resonated centre), K&N panel filter and STI 5 intercooler with the STI Y-pipe, ECU is a std 801 and it is always run on Optimax.
I was really suprised with the figures and I think they are pretty genuine as the other cars that ran that day returned expected figures.
My mate had an MY98 a while ago and had a WRX engine, gear box and rear diff fitted as his original engine went pop To be honest there wasnt much difference in them but he had the lower gearing so could always get away quicker but because of the lower gearing he also had to go to a Shell garage more often too

OK THEN!

2O BHP? TRY 60.
AND COME IN BLACK? = MINES SILVER? LOL

Differences between an STI & WRX besides obvious body styling, (on STI) larger intercooler, uprated chip, larger brakes?? ==ONLY DIFFERANCE IS SHORTER GEAR RATIO!

YOU NEED TO READ SOME MORE ON IMPORTED MOTORS!

So wrx's have the same internals and ancilleries as the UK just a bigger TD05 turbo

And

Sti's have Uprated internals & Heads, TD05, Larger Intercooler with i/c
right then-

pre 96 uk and pre 96 wrx and sti saloon has tdo5 turbo
pre 96 wrx wagon has tdo4 turbo(not sure about the sti)
post 96 uk turbo also has tdo4 turbo
post 96 wrx has vf turbo (vf22 i think)
post 96 sti has vf23-vf28

not all sti's came with forged pistons!

as for injectors-

all pre 96 cars came with 380cc injectors(phase 1 fuel rails)
96-98 uk cars have 380cc injectors(phase 1 fuel rails)
99-00 cars came with 440cc injectors(phase 2 fuel rails)
96-98 wrx and sti have 440cc injectors(phase 1 fuel rails)
99-00 wrx and sti have 440cc injectors(phase 2 fuel rails)

don't ask about diffs and g/boxes, it gets even more confusing
