Likely to be coil packs

Yeah could be I guess. Is it like hitting a brick wall or just rough running?

Just rough, not pulling cleanly.

In that case check the plugs first, but could be one or more coil packs

Got same problem with my 95 sti ra, after changing spark plugs I found 2 coil packs are cracked under rubber sheath, misfires on heavy load. AS performance do them at £50 each but are on back order from japan.
