ECU fitting.
Hi Guys.
I'm about to remove an aftermanrket ECU from my MY98 turbo, and put the standard one back in.
Is it a straight swapout ??
Or should i get an auto spark to do it ?
Thanks
Johnny.

Piece of cake
Move carpet out of the way (passenger footwell)
3 10mm Bolts, 1 10 mm nut....remove shield
2 10mm nuts remove ecu
Unplug 3/4/5 connectors (MY dependant)
Reverse above with new ecu

To remove GEMS, it's fairly straight forward...
As as has been said in a previous post, lift up the passenger side carpet, un-do the bolts holding the kickplate and remove the kickplate.
Underneath you will find the ECU.
You need to disconnect the connectors on the left hand side of the ECU, and remove the ECU from the car....
The anti-lag switch and fuel map selector switches have been added to the ECU loom... i'm not sure what effect leaving them connected will have on the original ECU - it might be advisable to remove tehm.. but i'd give Steve Simpson a bell to ask!
The GEMS ECU does not come with its own mounting brackets etc.. and it will be installed in the standard ECU metalwork.... so you need to swap them, and replace into the car in true Haynes manual fashion.. ie. refitting is reversal of above.
However,
All is not complete!... you will probably have had a temperature sensor installed in the intercooler.. if so, it will be utilising the knock sensor wiring (GEMS doesn't use the knock sensor!)... so you will need to re-connect the knock sensor (you'll see the connector flapping about.. you cant go wrong).
Also, the Lanbda sensor will need re-connecting... (sensor is behind turbo, on the downpipe...), again.. you'll probably be able to spot the plug and socket.. just re-connect.
That should be it....
