I have a '95 UK Turbo and I noticed that when pulling away hard the engine sometimes cut out for split seconds repeatedly when accelerating hard . I have since changed the spark plugs which has only made the problem worse. It now seems to misfire at low revs as well, especially after a long run and the engine is hot when entering traffic .
The next thing I did was to clean the wastegate which improved things a little but nothing major. Then I changed the fuel filter. I have now got a Scoobymania de-cat centre and backbox & a K&N induction kit fitted. All these things have substantially improved the performance but the engine cutting problem just seems more violent with the exhaust going putt putt when accelerating hard .
I am not a Scooby genius and really need some sort of guidance & assistance with sorting the problem .
Could it be possible that the sparkplugs I fitted are naff (Champion eon platinum) and that I just need better ones (everyone says NGK R) or could it be something else. I heard on another post that it could be a problem with coils (whatever they are ??!!??)
Please help as when you've got a car sounding as meaty as mine it can get quite embarrassing if the boost doesn't hold when accelerating from the lights .
Thanks
Maffa

Classic coil pack symptoms, there are no plug leads. You should replace all four if one is going. If changing plugs made it worse then they are probably gapped incorrectly, should be 0.7mm but I've seen some gapped at 1.0/1.2mm for some reason.

Maffa,
That's the exact symptoms I had on MY 95 WRX and Bob Rawle pointed me in the direction of the coil packs (Thanks Bob).
I replaced them and I've not had a problem since.
Happy Coil Packing mate..

Guys,
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the coils and coil bungs. I took them all off idividually earlier and checked the bungs (all seemed okay-no cracks), gave them a clean and then gave the coil contacts a damn good scraping as they were slightly scorched.
One thing I did find was that because the coil packs are held on by just one bolt, if this gets tightend it twists the coil pack around slightly, taking it off centre. I gave these a quick twist back slightly to make sure the packs were in alighnment with the sparkplugs and hey presto no more misfire.
I would highly recomend that anyone with the same symptoms has a look at this before forking out for new coil packs as I don't think they're cheap!!!
Happy driving.
