Angry fuel pump removal ????

Hi
Hav etried a search but not getting the answers i need.Im just trying to fit 255l/h pump and pressure kit,ive got the cover off and pipes disconnected but when i go to take the pump assembly out of the tank it doesnt want to come out.I have the pump and then a large clear plastic moulding attached to the rear of the pump and also i can just see and hear a metal rod coming off the plastic moulding that goes down to the bottom of the tank. This can be heard scraching the tank as i tyr to pull, there just doesnt seem to be room and i keep catching the petrol inlet from the perol cap too.
With my luck lately il break something inside and have no car then.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Regards
Gene

Usually just needs a bit of careful twisting and turning to get it out, as well as a well lit working area with good access around the tank exit.

Just to echo what JB has said, you wont be able to just lift the pump out as the float goes down and in, If you carefully rotate the unit and twist it all round it comes out quite nicely. Just be careful not to bend anything

Thanks John, the light thing was correct as could see what was being disturbed a bit more.
I now have it out and new pump on,just going to connect the +ve and -ve wires to the original subaru wiring,Dumb question but these wires will be ok due to being in petrol and getting splashed on full tank? The original did have one small rubber cover over the +ve and nothing over the -ve.Or is that small resistor thing on the framework something to combat this.A bit tooooooo much caution but had enough of things going wrong this week.

Alyn

What is the likely problem if the resistor is left in the circuit when the Walbro 255l/hr pump is fitted? Too low flow or other problem?

Thanks
Neil

not sure what you mean................just to clarify, later classics have a resistor linked to the main fuel pump wiring by some v.light wires!!
simply do away with this resistor when you solder in the new connector for the Walbro....................the +ve and -ve are linked exectly as per original...............

hope this helps

and to add..............the resisitor is there to drop the voltage of the pump on cruise from 12volts to 9v for emissions/ mileage considerations....................
with a modified car it is recomended that you forget this issue.........

I see, thanks for that. It's just I didn't recall removing any resistor when I fitted my Walbro last year, just cut off the wires from old pump at/near pump and reconnected to new pump wiring.

But on early classic 1994 ish then probably no resistor?

Cheers

Neil
