From my experience with the early ECU they run the same boost and fuel/ignition maps.
I think the only difference is mechanics such as shorter ratio gearbox, LSD rear diff and a fith injector which does nothing unless mapped to do so i.e with a Group N ECU.

therefore accelration will be better but top end will be limited

mmmm i was always led to think that they were alot faster because of the fifth injector etc etc...so is it worth buying this then if not any better than a wrx,,,are the 93 ra 240bhp..??where would you get a group n ecu and what would that do..thanks

Depends if you want the shorter ratio box and what type of driving you do. If it's gonna be used on the M'way then you would be better of with a WRX.

The 5th injector certainly does not function on the Pre96. It may tho function on the later cars (not sure).

Ive just put a 94ra engine into my 93wrx ...im using the ecu from my 93, and ive fitted a full decat when the engine was changed.

Ive found that im getting a lot more power (ok - the decat will help that), but most important ive seen 10% improvement in fuel economy ...im now able to get 330km out of a tank full, inside of my previous ever best of 300km when that car was std.

I was of the understanding that the 'RA' was 260bhp and the wrx is 240, but i'd be interested to know whether that is a product of the ecu, ???? what ecu is used on the RA..??

Early RA ECU where I think a W9. A WRX was either W6, U8 or 2C
judging by the maps, if there really is any more power it ain't the ECU thats doing it.

A late 94 engine may produce more power, as the 260PS version was introduced in Sept94.
