94WRX Oiling Up
#1
I have a 94WRX which is pretty standard and has been hereto excellent.
Recently it has been leaking oil out of the two 'breather' pipes which run from the top of the rocker covers back into the inlet manifold. I have a Haynes manual for Legacy's from which I think these pipes are the Positive Crankcase Ventilation tubes.
Can anyone tell me why they have suddenly started 'oiling up' lke this and what I can do to fix it?
One theory I have is that it could be the crankshaft seals, is this likely? Has anybody seen this before?

It won't be related to the crank seals. These are at the front, and back of the engine, and would just show up as leaks.
Excessive oil in the vents is normally caused by running very high boost, and or worn rings.
The type of oil you use can make a big difference too.
It would be worth doing a cylinder pressure test, and if this holds up, fitting an oil catch tank.
On the other hand, since I'm sure one of my suggetions will be right, I'll sort it out once I've collected my "free car"
Mark.

lol at other thread..
Id say same as above.. honest.. no I was going to say possibly the rings and do a compression test... Possibly too much oil in the engine...?? or maybe a blocked oilway / pipe somewhere??
Has it been serviced recently? How many miles?

davecoombs - have you solved your one?
The left hand one is definitely the worse of the two.
Car has done 119,00km - oil change fairly recently (<1000km)
Any ideas which oil-way could be blocked?

Just to close out this issue - I removed the breather covers from the top of the rocker covers and resealed with liquid gasket and also applied some liquid gasket to a couple of rocker-cover bolts which appeared to be leaking.
The real problem however was the fact that I had used a sub-standard oil which was boiling up and 'getting everywhere' I purged the bloody stuff out of the engine and replaced with a sound fill of Mobil 1. Problem solved!
Thanks for your replies everyone, this forum is fantastic and a real testement to 'hands-on' practical vs internet communication!!
