Unhappy Noise from rear offside hub

This problem has dogged me for a while now and is getting on my nerves

If I turn very hard left at low speed, really loading up the suspension on the offside rear wheel I get this scraping noise very similar to the noise experienced with a rear wheel (wheel, not tyre) rubbing on the wheel arch. From this point onwards I will get similar scraping noises when going through light left hand turns or even over bumps (considerably less energy is required), driving normally gradually gets rid of it and after about a mile of driving it'll be back to normal.

I've had the rear hub apart many times now, I can find no sign of anything rubbing anywhere, there is no apparent movement in the wheel or hub. I've had the disc off and completely scrubbed out the inside, and I can find no sign of rubbing there wotsoever either. I've even adjusted the shoes (handbrake) inwards.

Now I'm completely stuck

Any suggestions would be very very very welcome right now

They all do that sir? Seriously, mine does similar things to me. It drives me mad, but there's no outward signs of a problem.

Maybe you've got a CV joint or wheel bearing gradually getting sick? It doesn't sound likely, but you never know...

Got a similiar noise at low speed when driving straight.
However, this goes away after a few miles. Not done anything about it and no probs.
Probably get it checked over next service, STi V Type R

Really Dave?

Mayb when you come to 'ave a look at Delta Dash I'll show ya what I mean, if you don't mind.

The wheel bearing seems ok, as I cant get no movement in it at all (by hand) and there's no road noise normally.

The CV joint however I can get a very slight movement if I hold the drive shaft and the hub and rotate them back and forth, I haven't tried this on any other wheel, to me it seemed ok, and i cant really see how the CV joint can make this sorta noise.

I'll have a listen (for all the good it'll do - I'm a mechanical numptie remember )

I thought both of them were very unlikely. Especially if you've checked.

Have you thought it could be a "sticky" piston in the brake caliper - it just holds the pad on the disc a bit until it gets warmed up?

lol

No, kinda got put off that for now, but it is the same problem

To me it does sound like the wheel bearing, it actually sounds just like the disc rubbing on the back of the shielding behind it, if the wheel was under heavy load a small amount of movement could cause this, however from my experience with gone wheel bearings you could normally feel a bit of movement when pulling the wheel around by hand, to add to that there are no signs of rubbing anywhere

It's really begining to **** me off. I don't mind having a problem but when you cant find the root cause of it it all gets a bit frustrating

Talking

Actually Judge, there's an amusing story attached to the donuts.
The day after I caused the problem with the noise on the hub (whilst doing donuts in a car park) me and my father took the vehicle to an empty car park so that I could drive round in circles whilst he followed listened to the wheel.

Within minutes we were harassed by 2 evidentally bored coppers who spent the best part of 5 minutes lecturing us on how they are
clamping down on anti social behaviour caused by people with high performance motor vehicles, doing things like donuts in car parks etc
I mean come on officer, do I look like the sort of person that's gonna be doing donuts in car parks. LOL
