Default Houston, we have a......

....problem? O.K., done a search to confirm whether or not I have a lamda sensor on the fritz, can,t decide. Symptoms are hesitation on steady/part throttle, extremely sooty exhaust however the car is driven. Just to stress, this couldn't be described as a misfire, and the car seems fine on WOT. The car's a MY00, tek 3, s/sport d/pipe and u/pipe, sti panel filter, sti5 i/c, nothing too adventurous, 50,000 miles , and is still on the original lamda. No unusual activity on the knocklink, 220 miles on a tank of optimax. Help appreciated.

Only ever see 1 bright green on the KL, even on WOT, so didn't think that the maf was likely, tbh. Just managed to purchase the now infamous Halfords L300 lamda sensor ( £25, back of the net!! ), so I suppose I'll be finding out for sure soon enough. Thanks for the reply.

Mine does the same and I've same mods as you bar the IC. However mine only seems to do it when cold. I thought that this was due to the Lamda taking time to warm up.

Is the Halford one just a straight replacement? for £25 its got to be worth it changing just in case.

Thanks for the replies, some useful info there. As I mentioned, managed to get the elusive Halfords lamda earlier today, but it appears they won't be stocking it in future, 3rd Halfords I tried had 1 left, reckoned it was half price at £25, although I've seen people on here saying that's all they've been paying for them at any given time. Incidentally, the relevant sensor
(L300) is made by a company called Lemark, who are contactable on 01527 520602, should you be unable to locate one through a local supplier. Hope others find this useful.

PeterStone, guess what, haven't swapped it over yet. Did about 60 miles or so, to a scooby meet in Hants on Monday night, and it seemed to be behaving itself, but there was a lot of full throttle activity involved, which doesn't seem to highlight the problem I have. Having said that, the exhaust still seems very sooty, which is a recent occurrence, corresponding timewise with the symptoms I listed above. If I'm not working this weekend I'll swap the lamda over then, and report the results after a few miles.
